In This Lesson We'll Focus On:

One of the hardest parts of American Mahjong for newer players isn't understanding the rules — it's figuring out where to go with the tiles you've been dealt.

We'll work on:

✨ Quickly assessing your starting tiles
✨ Identifying suits, pairs and patterns
✨ Finding realistic options on the NMJL card
✨ Narrowing down the card without reading every single hand
✨ Recognizing which hands your tiles naturally support
✨ Knowing when to commit — and when NOT to
✨ Keeping backup options open

🀄️ The Charleston With Intention

The Charleston isn't just about finding three tiles you don't like.

What you pass — and what you keep — should be helping you move toward a hand.

We'll look at:

✨ What to pass first
✨ What might be worth holding
✨ Protecting flexibility early in the game
✨ Reading how your hand develops through each pass
✨ When your original idea isn't working
✨ Pivoting to another hand
✨ Making your Charleston decisions with PURPOSE

💗 We'll Start With Rollor Boards

We'll begin by working visually with Rollor Boards, breaking down hands and practicing the decision-making process before moving into hands-on tile practice.

If you own a set of Mahjong tiles, please bring it with you!

We'll be working with tiles during the lesson and the more sets we have available, the more hands-on practice everyone can get.

Who Is Mahj 102 For?

This class is ideal if you've completed Mahj 101 or already understand:

✓ The basic tiles
✓ How the NMJL card works
✓ The Charleston
✓ Jokers and exposures
✓ The basic flow of an American Mahjong game

You do not need to be an experienced player.

In fact, this class is specifically for the stage where you understand the rules but still need help figuring out what to DO with your tiles.
